Choosing the Best Hotels in Málaga with a Swimming Pool

Complete disclosure. I have not stayed in all of these hotels in Málaga with pools. Clearly, this would be impossible for a single traveller

Instead, I have based my recommendations on my knowledge of Málaga’s neighbourhoods, gained through spending time in the city and researching hotel reviews across multiple platforms.

I’ve done the legwork so you don’t have to. When choosing these places to stay in Málaga, I have taken the same care as if I was booking accommodation for myself.

Reviews of the Best Hotels in Málaga with a Pool

1. Gran Hotel Miramar

Best for old-school glamour

Do you want to stay in the most glamorous place in town? If so, book a room or suite at Gran Hotel Miramar, one of the Leading Hotels of the World.

I love the history of this 5-star hotel. It was a hospital during the Spanish Civil War and has provided hospitality to many famous guests, including Ernest Hemingway and Ava Gardner.

Fusing Andalusian architecture with Moorish design, its rooms and suites are decorated in different styles. There are sea views from the balconies of the best of these, and Bulgari toiletries come as standard.

Unlike most Málaga hotels, the outdoor swimming pool is large. The spa by Sisley offers a range of treatments, an indoor hydrotherapy pool, sauna and hammam.

Gran Hotel Miramar is on La Malagueta’s beachfront.

Book this if you want

  • glitz and glamour
  • a spa
  • sea views
  • a historic property with modern conveniences

ThiNK TWICE if you

2. Only YOU Hotel Málaga

Best for a special treat

This 5-star Málaga hotel ticks all the boxes for me.

The rooms at Only YOU Hotel Málaga are stunning and equipped with all mod-cons, including a media hub that connects to Bluetooth, HDMI and USB. The more expensive rooms offer sea views. All come with high-quality toiletries.

From the hotel’s rooftop infinity pool, there are spectacular views across the Bay of Málaga. Sadly, there’s no spa but there is a fitness centre.

Its location on Alameda Principal couldn’t be more central. The city’s top attractions, including Málaga Cathedral, are within easy walking distance.

3. Soho Boutique Equitativa

Best for a centrally-located mid-range hotel

Stay close to Málaga Cathedral at Soho Boutique Equitativa

Soho Boutique Equitativa is a more wallet-friendly Málaga hotel with a pool on Alameda Principal.

Its recently renovated rooms come with all mod-cons, including a Nespresso machine for your morning coffee. From some of the more expensive rooms and suites, there are views of Málaga Cathedral.

However, you won’t be doing laps in the hotel pool. Although it’s perfect to cool off in, it is very small.

4. Soho Boutique Castillo de Santa Catalina

Best for a relaxing beachfront stay in style

Housed in a listed building dating to the 1930s, this 5-star hotel oozes charm and style.

If you stretch your holiday budget to a junior suite, you’ll bag a private terrace with spectacular sea views. The pool is a little on the small side but offers fabulous views over the Bay of Málaga.

Soho Boutique Castillo de Santa Catalina is located near La Caleta Beach.

5. Room Mate Valeria

Best for solo travellers on a mid-range budget

Málaga’s historic centre

For a mid-range hotel in Málaga with a rooftop pool, take a look at Room Mate Valeria.

This 4-star modern hotel is excellent value.

Although its rooms are on the small side, they are comfortable and well-equipped. The more expensive rooms have balconies. Its economy double rooms are a more affordable option for solo travellers.

Whilst the hotel’s rooftop pool isn’t huge – it’s little more than a plunge pool – it’s enough to cool off after a busy day seeing the sights of Málaga. And considering the hotel’s price point, there are few grounds for complaint.

Location-wise, Room Mate Valeria hits that sweet spot between the Centro Histórico and Malagueta Beach. It’s also close to the epicentre of Málaga’s street art scene.

Book this if you want

  • a value-for-money hotel
  • a rooftop pool
  • an excellent location

ThiNK TWICE if you WANT

Fantastic location with everything within a few minutes walk. The rooftop terrace is great for sunsets!

6. H10 Croma Málaga

Best for cool modern design

The view from the small rooftop pool and bar in this new award-winning hotel in the heart of Málaga’s historic core is spectacular. There is also a lobby bar and restaurant.

Designed by renowned architect Rafael Moneo, most of the elegant rooms at H10 Croma Málaga have an original private terrace with table and chairs. Pamper yourself with the Rituals toiletries in all rooms. A large Smart TV and Nespresso machine come as standard.

7. Barceló Malaga, Centro

Best for day trips from Málaga

pretty pizza in marbella old town with central lampost with 5 lamps
Barcélo Malaga is a good choice if you are planning a day trip to Marbella

Málaga is not only a wonderful destination in its own right but it also is a jumping-off point for day trips. I visited Marbella as a day trip, and you can be in Granada or Seville within two hours by train or bus.

Although the area around the bus and train station wouldn’t be my favourite area to stay in Málaga, this may make sense if you are using the city as a base for day trips.

From the 4-star Barceló Malaga you can be seeing the sights of central Málaga within 20 minutes on foot.

This modern hotel has bright mosaic tiles and features a striking, curving steel sculpture which you can use to slide down to the lobby if you fancy. Although there are bars and restaurants nearby, the hotel’s La Santa María gastrobar is a popular local joint.

Its 221 rooms are more spacious than most in the city, and its priciest rooms and suites feature spa baths.

There’s a lovely rooftop terrace with a small pool as well as a gym and sauna.

Book this if you want

  • quick getaways by train and bus
  • a spacious room
  • a rooftop pool
  • a popular bar and restaurant on site

ThiNK TWICE if you WANT

  • to stay in the thick of things in the Historic Centre
  • a beachfront location

What other travellers have said

Pool area really nice, lots of space to sit/lay down and the bar was a plus. Service was good and you could order food up to the pool area.

8. AC Hotel Málaga Palacio

Best for cool rooftop vibes

This Málaga institution is now part of the Marriott chain.

It features a fabulous rooftop terrace on the 15th floor, where there is a pool as well as a bar and restaurant.

Restaurants, bars, museums and La Malagueta Beach are all close to AC Hotel Málaga Palacio.

Some of its spacious rooms have sea views and balconies; the cheaper rooms overlook an interior courtyard. These are simply furnished with wooden floors and beige tones and come with a tea/coffee maker.

Book this if you

  • want a buzzy rooftop terrace with a pool
  • want easy access to both the beach and the historic centre
  • are a member of the Marriott loyalty scheme

ThiNK TWICE if you WANT A

  • beachfront location
  • spa

What other travellers have said

Great location, clean and large rooms, very friendly staff and amazing breakfast spread.

9. NH Málaga

Best for easy access to the airport

I had my beady eye on NH Málaga for a return visit to Málaga.

Its relatively modest price point reflects its location, on the opposite side of the Guadalmedina River from the historic centre. However, the cathedral is only ten minutes’ walk and it is extremely handy for Alameda train station, which serves the airport.

This is the largest hotel in Málaga city centre and features a small rooftop pool, a good restaurant and on-site parking. Some of its light-filled rooms have balconies and bathtubs.

Book this if you want

  • easy access to the airport
  • a rooftop pool
  • onsite car parking

ThiNK TWICE if you WANT

  • a beachfront location
  • to stay in the historic centre

What other travellers have said

Great location and lovely roof top bar and pool.

10. Blue Castle GuestHouse

Best for a budget stay in Málaga

Blue Castle GuestHouse is a rarity: a budget guest house in Málalga with a swimming pool.

It has a shared lounge and kitchen as well as a lovely garden, perfect for meeting other people if you are travelling alone. As many of the rooms have shared bathrooms, splash out on a deluxe room for private facilities and a balcony.

Location-wise, the guest house is a 20-minute walk from Málaga Cathedral. It’s the same distance from Malagueta Beach.

Book this if you ARE

  • travelling on a budget
  • a solo traveller
  • want self-catering facilities

ThiNK TWICE if you WANT

  • breakfast included
  • to stay in the historic centre
  • a beachfront hotel

What other travellers have said

It feels like home. We love everything but especially the beautiful garden and friendly staff. The location is close to nature and the city centre.
